Trailgoat replied to the topic Can we avoid a mass exodus when Whitt retires? in the forum Football 10 months, 1 week ago
Credit to KW and the culture built supporting a solid succession plan for Scalley. As long as Harlan doesn’t Fu$% it up, transitioning Scalley to HC with KW in a consulting role should have little impact on player departures and may actually be good for recruiting. Further validates KW’s commitment to the people not only the player. Scalley owned…[Read more]

KW is definitely year to year. Give the 12 team play-off run. Would be surprised if he went more than two more years. Scalley would of split by now if he wasn’t next up. KW also has the option to stay on in a consulting role to support Scalley. Either way, Utes are set up right for a smooth transition.

Trailgoat replied to the topic ESPN has the Utes as #13 Going into Next Season in the forum Football 10 months, 2 weeks ago
Copy. Some unknowns going into next season. Let the off season analysis begin :)! Utah goes where Rising goes. Utah is still a young team overall.
!. QB situation is volatile with no intermediate back-up at the moment. I have a scary feeling we have not seen the last of Barnes taking snaps at Utah (giving myself a down vote for typing this)…[Read more] -

Excellent off-season post to keep the board energy rumbling :)! Crazy times when your QB1 gets paid over $1 mil not playing a down of football over the last year and half rehabilitating his knee. Far removed from the situation so I am guessing some entity agreed there was still a lot of ROI through Cams NIL local advertising, etc. I don’t live in…[Read more]

Trailgoat replied to the topic Bowl Game Perspective in the forum Football 10 months, 3 weeks ago
Agree Charlie. Way more to this than us fans need to know. Seems clear there was no plan to play Rose in the bowl game. KW’s choice of words stating, Rose is “not ready” muddied the waters, not going to read too much into it. I truly don’t listen too much of coach speak on game day. Coaches are contractually obligated to respond to a bunch of dumb…[Read more]

Trailgoat replied to the topic Transfer portal QB’s are the way to go, the Noah Fifita’s are the exception. in the forum Football 10 months, 3 weeks ago
Yup, same goes for Jedd Fisch. No way Fisch is at UofA after next season. He’s a Florida grad and would be a possible target hire at UF if/when Napier gets canned, which is looking very likely the way UF has been trending.

Looking forward to seeing Rising play his final season at Utah. Finding and developing a top level QB is not easy especially since very few want to put their time in. As some have posted, Rising, Penix, Nix, Ward, Uiagalelei all took time in a system to reach their potential. Penix’s first year at Indiana was 2018. It’s clear, the top college…[Read more]

Trailgoat replied to the topic Arizona could be the toughest game of 2024 in the forum Football 11 months ago
Yup, and several away games other than USU. UofA has a solid defense. Not confident Utah has the offense to keep up with UofA in its current state.

Trailgoat started the topic Transfer Portal Question in the forum Football 11 months ago
Do current transfer portal players have to be enrolled in school Spring semester to participate in Spring ball? If a player is not signed and registered by Jan 8, do they miss out on Spring ball? If so, the timeline is creeping up on a lot of players in the portal to sign with schools to participate in the Spring.

Trailgoat replied to the topic Why does Whit insinuate a move to the Big10 is coming? in the forum Football 11 months ago
Agree. Crucial 4-5 years in the B12 for Utah. Utah likely going through a head coaching change in the next 1-2 years. Utes need to make the 12 team play-off next season and 2-3 times over the next four years. Fan support for college football in the next few years is something that could be an interesting factor considering everything that’s going on.

Trailgoat replied to the topic 2024 question marks in the forum Football 11 months ago
Not in any order of importance.
Utah must effectively throw the ball when they have to beyond a balanced attack. Utah needs an outside WR threat Rising of course, if healthy changes the dynamic.QB back-up and protecting Rising. UO did a solid job protecting Nix this season. Nix ran the ball 53 (lowest in his career) times this season compared…[Read more]

Trailgoat replied to the topic Rose in the forum Football 11 months ago
Seems KW made up his mind before the game Rose was not playing. Hard saying though considering the way info is communicated to the media and fans. I quit listening to KW’s pre and post game press conferences. Like most coaches, he spews a lot of BS coach speak and the playing dumb banter routine with the local media who are scared of asking him…[Read more]

Trailgoat replied to the topic If it is going to take a huge NIL offer to get JJ back in the forum Football 11 months, 1 week ago
The OSU rumor is interesting. OSU has the NCAA leading rusher in Ollie Gordon. Sounds like Gordon has not committed to coming back to OSU yet. Next season, OSU’s Oline is loaded with all five talented starters returning. Evidently OSU has a NIL, collective whatever you want to call it now dedicated to support the Oline. OSU’s Oline coach is…[Read more]

Happy for NJ. Great town, elite academic school. Greta move for NJ especially if he’s getting a scholarship and some NIL/pay to play. Fresh start considering the QB drama that went down at Utah with Rising’s mysterious injury status. New OC Tim Beck has a solid background of developing QBs, which he’s going to need. NJ fits Becks offensive.

Trailgoat replied to the topic Keaton Bills to enter the 2024 NFL draft in the forum Football 11 months, 2 weeks ago
Coaching from the couch, Bills and Laumea were projected pre-season P12 1st team this year. Probably good for Bills to go now. Like Laumea, he’s done enough to show his NFL value. Should be interesting to see what the Oline looks like next year without Laumea and Bills. Both should get drafted. Can’t recall Utah in the P12 era having two Oline…[Read more]

Defer to coaches voting who are watching film on these players almost every waking moment during the season. Biggest disappointment this season IMO was the Utah Oline. Overall this group was very inconsistent, had way too many penalties, missed assignments, and got pushed around against the good teams. Rushing yards: OSU: 57, Oregon: 99, UW: 115,…[Read more]

Good point Eagle. Sadly, Utah truly needs Barnes to play. Going into any game with only one QB is not a good situation. Admirable of Barnes to go on Riley’s show and communicate his intentions and situation. I’m sure directed by KW to get out in front of it considering the Rising communication debacle.
Nothing against Bottari (sp), he did an…[Read more]

Trailgoat replied to the topic Harlan in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
The next 4-6 years are defining times for Harlan’s run as Utah AD, if he sticks around. Chris Hill’s vision, get to the P12. Randall and Harlan’s vision, get in the club when networks decide on who’s in and who’s out. Utah’s realistic football goal every year will be B12 Championship and play-off. If Utah can get into some play-off games, win a…[Read more]

Trailgoat replied to the topic Why Isn't Utah Ranked in the Top 25? in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
Agree, no way Utah is currently a top 25 team. Barely squeaking by CU against QB2 at home did not help. Excluding the injuries in key position groups, Utah has several issues to fix during the off season that surely to be discussed at length during the off season.

While in some rankings, to date, playing the toughest SOS in college football. If Utah can get a win against CU and a bowl game victory, all things considered it’s been a solid season.
