In terms of the true freshman I was talking about next year, not this year. Tafua seems to be the edge run stopper, but we still need a pass rusher. My whole point is that neither is a Bradlee Anae, and I’m saying that we need one, if we don’t have one, then I guess we don’t have one yet, but I bet we’ll see someone emerge next season.

Sounds like you think the issue is with Tupai?

That might be true, used to see better pressure from him in years past, and it may have been why he did not receive as much playing time, and why he gets rotated out a lot this year.

I think Tafua sticks around another year. But don’t you think he should be put in a pass rushing position if he is more capable? Would it not be more beneficial because we do not struggle with run stopping?

Completely agree our run stopping has been fantastic as usual, just wish we would get more pressure on the QB.

I’m speaking more in terms of next year so hopefully the younger guys would have excelled with having a real offseason training, and yes to be fair Tafua is more of a edge run stopper, we still need a pass rusher is what I am trying to say.

How is it ridiculous? Where is the production from Tafua and Tupai?

I would give Fillinger, Carlton, and Suguturaga more snaps.

I think i’m being misunderstood, my point is that tafua and tupai need to step up or get benched and give the younger guys opportunities because tupai and tafua have had plenty of them.

Tafua and Tupai have been in the scheme for forever, 3 years starting is a whole lot of time, not overnight. They need to step up or be benched.

Fair point, and I completely agree that our pass rush will come back no doubt, just not with the two starters we have who have had many opportunities to prove themselves and have not, and think we should move on to find the answer.

I’m more worried about them leaving next year than I am this year, I don’t see them leaving after just 4 games when they got some playing time. But Tupai and Tafua have been with the program a couple years, and Tafua is starting in his 3rd year this year and still has not shown pass rushing skills, which you cannot blame on offseason weirdness.

I agree that I don’t see them transferring out after this year but you never now these days, the portal is getting crazy. So making one critique/negative observation makes me miserable? Face the facts, our D ends aren’t getting pressure like our past ones have, Tafua and Tupai are definitely no Bradlee Anea.

Our D line is the worst part of our defense this year, no one is getting pressure, QB’s have to much time to throw against our talented but young DB’s.

It will be Vonte Davis and RJ Hubert next year who are both really solid, Hubert has a lot of potential. They like Latu a lot and we’ve got some more guys coming in, would be nice to steal Jeffery Bassa from Oregon though.

Then you need to watch closely, Wilmore had touches last year and early this year to show his capability and he showed worse than Ty Jordan and Micah Bernard.
