Both of those runs, BTW were outside the “box”, which means the contain man. The DE may have that responsibility, but in those two runs the DE was crashing from the git go. You can see Tautioli in the first and Guidry in the second scrambling to get back in position.

Different play than the one I was thinking of. I was thinking of the long TD play. On the play at :35 on that video it was a missed assignment/read by NO 10, Tautiloi

And that was a case where he was just a half a step slow and Love made the play.

Considering bowl lineup, even now is highly premature. The loss of a team in the playoff will push all the bowl alignments lower, but if we get in I could see either Vegas or Sun.

Utahute72 started the topic So here's a different thought experiment. in the forum Football 7 years, 1 month ago
It looks to me like we have two options at this point.
First we can stay the course and implement the new offensive scheme, but this comes with a lot more uncertainty against the higher level talent and a pretty significant chance we miss a bowl game. But it would also put us further down the path of establishing the offense and moving toward…[Read more] -

Most people rave about the defense under Pease. Well that’s the version Scalley is running. Either you follow the Sitaki model and blitz frequently, or you follow the Pease model and play base defense and blitz as needed. That second one is what we’ve played all year. For the most part it’s worked. Last week the defense was put in bad…[Read more]

Well those two are tied together. If Roderick is still the OC, I’m betting that Williams is the QB. Sometimes you have to take a step back to take a step forward. My point was that the early lofty expectations on the part of Ute fans were unwarranted. We should have expected some rough sledding this year.

I reject this message as being argumentative, obtuse and inaccurate.

I think we will learn a lot more about the coaches. Can they motivate the players and correct the problems enough to get a couple more wins.

“He’s still not 100%”. – Kyle Whittingham 10/21 post game interview
A further indictment that they didn’t put Wiliams in at some point. If Huntley is not performing because he’s injured, how about trying someone who isn’t hurt.

I was surprised they didn’t pull him at half time and try Williams. If not at half, certainly after the first few offensive series.

Utahute72 replied to the topic Two concerns about Huntley in the forum Football 7 years, 1 month ago
I think the last half of the post is the most important. We really don’t know how good Huntley can be, but we all hope he is a good as he has shown in those games. We all THINK we may have won the USC game if he’s running that two point conversion because of his field vision, but we don’t know if we would have even been in that position if he’s…[Read more]

Utahute72 replied to the topic Question about ASU in the forum Football 7 years, 1 month ago
They had a lot of help from Washington in stopping them. Miscues, poor play calls and really bad execution had as much to do with that defensive performance as ASU forcing plays. That’s probably true in most cases, but if we play like we did at USC we win.

Is it OK to state that it’s good to see Ainge get his comeuppance. He’s been angling to lure Hayward away for two years and now he’s stuck paying for him while he’s in rehab, or longer.

Somebody made to comment that the word is out that when Troy scrambles he drops his eyes and tucks the ball. So defensive coordinators are dropping coverage on the wide outs (this play would seem to support that comment). The thing is we need to take advantage of that tendency if we use Troy again and have him tuck and run, then pull up and look…[Read more]

I think the key is to build PAC 12 level talent depth. You could tell that we were gassed at the end on defense. If you look at the conference the teams that are consistently at the top have that depth to overcome injury and still have enough left to handle long stretches where they have to rotate players in at key spots.
