NIL can not be capped any more than Lebron’s endorsements. It is that simple. The previous rules limiting college athlete’s ability to control their name and likeness were deemed illegal by the judicial system.
New rules would have to take some other form- but endorsement money is out of the barn, running around the neighborhood, and isn’t going…[Read more]

Negative national sentiments will come if they win. No one will care if they lose.

This notion is with the knowledge that Cam would never return. That is easy in retrospect. All decisions are easy in retrospect.
There was no way for Whitt to know that Cam was done. A healthy Cam would have changed everything. Obviously it didn’t happen and Whitt looks like a dunce. If cam came back Whitt would have looked like a genius.…[Read more]

Well..
Looks like the SEC has some top-end quality after all with 4 of the elite 8.

Don’t know who this is or what she wants in life but I wish her the best.

Uteanooga replied to the topic Nate Johnson scores on 80 yard run in the forum Football 22 days ago
The problem comes when everyone in the stadium can tell what the next play is depending on the personnel. If Beck can be creative then I could get excited. If the defense plans for the obvious play, and the obvious play is ran, I am skeptical that Nate’s athletic talent will consistently overcome the defensive preparation.
Our history is the…[Read more]

Uteanooga replied to the topic Utes pickup a 2027 QB – Thaddeus Thatcher in the forum Football 25 days ago
Fantastic news. Obviously there is a lot of runway between now and the ’27 signing day but this a great pickup. Warren will probably end up a 5*- something we have never signed out of high school. Having an inside track to his attention is really cool.
Great day to be a Ute!

I think he is surprised at Whitt being forthcoming with information rather than Wilson’s position on the depth chart.

Maj was far superior in each of the three areas of recruiting, developing, and in-game coaching than anyone else we have had in the modern area. He was not elite in terms of being nice to all the players- particularly players that had deficiencies or were not matches for his system. I knew a family member of a player who accused him of being…[Read more]

Uteanooga replied to the topic Harlan met with Jensen in the forum Basketball (Men) a month ago
Decades of poor results, poor fan support, and poor NIL support. Lot of risk involved with taking this job.
Easy to see why Jensen would not want to take the plunge without adequate assurance of resources.
What is not easy to see is why they would fire the coach without having this settled.

Uteanooga started the topic Why is it taking so long to announce the new coach? in the forum Basketball (Men) 2 months ago
I assumed the deal was essentially done behind closed doors. If so, why don’t we know anything yet? Is the delay a sign that Alex may not be wrapped up? I was hoping we would not have to get down to our 4th or 5th choice.
What say you? Is this typical? Is the delay an actual delay or merely my paying attention and wanting to know what will happen?

Deivon looked like the best player on the team to me- granted I was only able to see them play in person once. It was the Iowa NIT game and Deivon was very good.
Madsen and Deivon would be a solid duo and the team would be significantly better.
Utah will not compete until it has funding to keep its best players as an absolute minimum. Enough…[Read more]

Nice one.
I’ll keep the bowl wins.
Would you rather have an elite football or basketball program?
I’ll take football.Would you rather have an elite academic university or a university with elite athletics?
I’ll take the academics. -

Bingo.
If you want to get the Runnin Ute’s mojo back- get a rock-star coach and enough NIL $ to field an elite roster.
The Hunty would rock again.

The last game I attended was vs Iowa in the NIT. My son asked if we were going to see Caitlin Clark play and I said “we are watching the men play son.” He seemed disappointed.
We arrived about 10 min late and the Hunty was so empty they were giving away tiks for free. No kidding. Our group had 11 people and when we tried to pay they said “Don’t…[Read more]

All excellent points and I appreciate your starting this interesting discussion.
The number of students living on campus has increased dramatically since I was a student 30 years ago. I was in town last week and worked out at the student life gym- which was pretty impressive. I was surprised at just how packed it was on a weekend with cruddy…[Read more]

The Marriott Center opened in 1971. I have no idea what condition it is in because I have never been there. It is old though. And BYU signed the top recruit in the nation. I suspect the 7mil of NIL cash had a larger impact on the recruit’s decision than the age of the basketball arena- though perhaps that is being overly skeptical.
If there is a…[Read more]
