ParticipantThanks for posting, so if you have some kind of inside connections and this is true, that means Utah just decided to fire Smith with no one hired yet. Unless this is just smoke and mirrors and them talk with Jensen is just a formality. Fingers crossed.

ParticipantAlso, hope this only the beginning of a revitalized and resurgent WBB, MBB and Football programs to elevate their games and make Utah a force in the Big12 next year. Go UTES!

ParticipantI hope it this win lit a fire in the MBB team and show the same fire and effort for WVU and BYU! End on a strong postive note and hope for a great hire for the next MBB coach. Go UTES!

ParticipantYou could be right, but it’s anybody’s guess at this point. The Utah admin and athletic Director, IMO, have shown poor leadership and management of the two top athletic programs at the university. MBB program has significantly suffered poorly over a decade. Reports indicate Harlan has been left out of this hiring process for the new HC and boosters and Utah admin are taking the lead. But I’m there with you! Radio silence from Utah from my point of view and experience is not a good thing for Utah fans. We’ve had coaches and players leave and Utah not saying anything with most of their departures with most fans realizing Utah doesn’t have the resources to keep them and won’t match the offers. Who knows. Hope they’ve locked a good hire down and will announce soon. Go UTES!

ParticipantIf Smith thought he saved his job with the two Kansas wins, this loss moved him back on the hot seat. He should stay there until end of the season, and then fire him.

ParticipantI think the one thing right school needs to focus on to keep the national respect for the school on the big stage, outside of its medical research institution, is the football program. That, IMO, is the #1 priority that is imperative to keep the image, profile and brand recogntion on the national stage, especially in the Big12. If the athletic dept and the football program can get back on track and return to its former Pac12 title years and win lots of football games in the Big12 and consistently win conf championships, the rest will work itself out! Oh and, make sure we end BYU’s lucky two game winning streak in football. Two games is two games too many! End the two game drought and return back to our winning ways and the basketball programs will take care of themselves. Go UTES!

ParticipantExactly! I have come to learn the university, especially as it pertains to te football program and Kyle W operate on “radio silence”. They keep the fanbase in the dark, and make it a “game time” decision which I have come to know as a very bad thing when handling situations and we’ve seen nothing good ever come out of that.
And because of that, I have zero faith in the university’s leadership the past few years. They were part of the reason why the Pac12 imploded, not the main reason, but they were partly to blame for the demise of the remaining members in the league. They may have tried to do their part, but got greedy and it backfired! My understanding is, the president and the athletic director were leading the charge and not accepting the ESPN offer which I think was $32M.
IMO, if Utah wants to go upward and not downward it would behoove them not to keep the current university leadership in power if they want to carry on the success in the Big12. BYU has resurrected their football and basketball programs and Utah has regressed. Poor management and decision making in those programs has the programs to regress. With years of experience, there should be no excuses why they can’t put good products on the field and on the court. Come on, lets get AJ and Miller signed and on the recruiting trail. Go UTES!

ParticipantI’m glad Afernee posted this. I read somewhere online that the UofU president and top donors are taking the lead on the hiring of the next MBB coach and that Harlan is not involved. That post was a few days ago and I can’t find it now. Makes me wonder the validity of that post, or was it just clickbait?! Either way, Harlan on very tight short leash and on a really really HOT hotseat. If its not Alex Jensen, Andre Miller or Bryant, the backlash against Harlan will be immense.

ParticipantI don’t think he’s in the driver seat for the next MBB HC hire. I hear it’s the university president and a few top donors that are going to decide and make the next hire. I think Harlan’s days are numbered and he is not trusted by a lot of the alumni. His post game comments after the BYU football game left a sour taste in the mouth of alum and donors, and was a poor showing on his part as Utah’s AD, and did not represent the university very well. I ‘ll be surprised if they keep him around another year.
