  • Thoughtful response Jim. I love Oregon’s offense and I think that’s where Scalley will try to take us. I don’t know that we can get there. Can we get the talent at the same level as Oregon? I see Saban’s Alabama approach more likely and aligned with where Whittingham has led us – Pro Style leaning toward smash mouth.

  • We had a strong offensive coordinator – Andy Ludwig. The call for his dismissal and the glee on this board when he resigned (by some) was shameful. The most important position on the field is quarterback – boy have the Utes learned that these last two seasons. I’m not worried about coaching. I think Bajakian can do the job if they choose to give…[Read more]

  • I guess we disagree on this one Proud. I know it’s laughable to say at this point but if Rising is healthy this season Utah is 9-0 or 8-1 at this point. A good and experienced quarterback is what this team needs. No question the coaching staff failed to get the right back up in place but I also see why. Who wanted to come in and play second to…[Read more]

  • I hope Whittingham stays. I think we’ll compete at the top of the league next year if he returns. I already can hardly wait to see what next year brings. The defense is in terrific shape. The offensive line will be good with the potential to be great.

Hanging onto players will be important to maintain the player foundation. There is no question…[Read more]

  • We just need to realize that this is one where every BYU fan sees it one way and every U fan sees it another. Like Klatt says – a 50/50 call. Sucks to be a U fan.

The reality for me is I put it in the category with a handful of other plays – the if only plays
-If Vaughn somehow keeps his hands off the Y receiver Retslaff still takes the sack. I…[Read more]

  • Uteanooga,
If I could give ten thumbs up I would.

  • I think Reid will play. O’Toole may be a game time decision but I think he’s ready to go as well. Probably safe to say both are still a little banged up but I think they are ready.

    22,
Five games in – mostly led by the backup QB and you’re making conclusions like these? The O’line is solid and they may become really good in the back half. The U chose to go with the young tackles and that’s bitten us a few times but I’d say he was accurate so far. How do we feel about the defensive ends if O’Toole is healthy? I doubt we lose…[Read more]

    Rick,
While I do think it’s silly to blame decisions on analytics, I think going for it on fourth and short in the redzone should happen more often than not. My issue is with the play calling in those situations. It is most often predictable and, as a result, allows the defense the upper hand. I hope there has been significant review and change to…[Read more]

Thumbs way up for the use of obsequious in a post. Wow.

Amen Charlie. Thank you for the post.

    Jim,
I think they did know what we were doing at times based on the defensive look. They seemed to know some of our calls. It happens with great preparation.

The backers definitely need to accept some blame for Arizona’s success. I agree with ST. I also think the D’line, for whatever reason, weren’t the aggressors the majority of the time…[Read more]

I was impressed with Whittingham’s reaction/remarks following the loss. If you haven’t read the piece in the Deseret Morning News focused just on his response, I recommend it.

He’s committed to fixing the red zone issues. I hope so. The program is long overdue to modernize red zone strategy and practice. I love how many of our opponents approach…[Read more]

    Proud,
I agree, mostly, with you post. I was a radio reporter and television producer many years ago in the market. Believe or not, Judkins got me into Utah basketball practices which was nearly impossible back then. I loved the access and felt like I was truly on the beat. I was able to cover Utah and BYU football at the time as well and having…[Read more]

    Jim and STbone,
Don’t you think that Barnes just held the ball too long at times? That’s an improvement I think he’s made this year – right or wrong because I do think he’s a one-read QB. There were a number of plays I remember where a receiver came open and he held the ball too long. In fact, our last offensive play of the bowl game was an…[Read more]

  • Please – everyone – watch Van Pelt. So good. Great find Yergy.

I’d love to see an efficient offense that finishes drives this week. The U did such a terrific job of ball possession Saturday but didn’t get in the endzone enough. I think we’re going to see a five- to six-touchdown game from our Utes Saturday. I hope Singer gets a couple of them.

Amen to each of these responses and I hope he stays for a final year. I think he’ll push Isaac and become the backup if he does.
