  • I don’t know Miami – long term injury or not, I think Ellis returns. He loves the environment and there are people in his ear telling him to enjoy college because the NFL is so different. By the way, Lander Barton will be having similar conversations after next season. He’ll be eligible and, I imagine, highly rated; but I wonder if his brothers…[Read more]

Isn’t it interesting how we see things? How can people see the same thing and interpret it so differently. How can people read the same tweet and interpret it so differently. Champ, I read that tweet – and knowing Scalley a little – I smiled to myself because I know he was truly troubled that he came off as turning his back on someone. I wouldn’t…[Read more]

  • Caliman,
If a few years go by and Isaac isn’t our starter I can see your prediction come true. He’ll want to start his last two or three seasons. Who wouldn’t?

Why go after this kid? What do we really know about an 18-year-old? Watching him play and listening to him thank his coaches and teammates yesterday following the championship left me…[Read more]

  • Or is he the next great safety? Looks to have the size and speed to be a free safety.

  • Tough crowd for Checketts. I do think he adds little to Utah football and basketball. Where he’s best in the market, in my opinion, is NBA coverage. I think he’s the most knowledgeable in our market and the most connected nationally. I think he does a nice job as an interviewer as well – across all sports. That’s something Bill Riley does a poor…[Read more]

  • Incremental improvement each game may be enough with this defense. The pick six was a terrible decision. The incomplete pass on our second-to-last possession on 3rd down was a panic throw in the face of a good rush but it has to be completed. If he does complete it the game is most likely over.

I love his toughness and there is no question he’s improving.

Damuni will do a terrific job filling in. Not saying we won’t miss him but we have players. Just like the D’line is dealing with Fano’s absence, the linebackers have the depth.

    Chin,
I think we don’t know yet. I tend to agree with those that are critical of Glover. With or without good QB play this season I think he’s had ample opportunity. I do think the kid cares and works so hopefully he gets better. What I don’t know is how the freshmen ‘backs this season we’ll do. I’ve been told the same thing that others have…[Read more]

  • Rick replied to the topic RB Pass Protection in the forum Football 11 months, 2 weeks ago

Absolutely Rick. Our two best running backs at pass protection are Micah Bernard and JaQuinden Jackson – in that order. Glover is improving. I’ve watched him pick up some blocks and miss others. He discussed it in a recent profile so he knows it’s an issue. If Jackson plays this week it will help pass protection significantly.

Did you see the piece in the Deseret News yesterday (I think)? Glover mentions that John Randle Jr. may get reps in the Oregon State game. It’s inferred that if JJ doesn’t play, Randle will get some reps. Glover praised his talent and work in the article. We’ll see.

I guess I haven’t read the posts of people saying Johnson can’t be QB1. I see enormous potential. If he does start again this week I hope Whittingham and Ludwig give him more of the playbook – or simply let him run more of what he knows. I like Nate. He’s improving and has significant potential.

I know some of us believe the coaches should have…[Read more]

  • You may be right Miami but I think he has the skillset to make the NFL and be more than a practice squad player – not there’s anything wrong with that.

  • Robo,
Cam has no serious NFL future? I disagree. He may not have some physical measurements – height, arm strength; but what else is he missing? I don’t think he’s a high draft pick – Hell, I don’t know if he’ll be drafted; but I think he’s an NFL quarterback. I think he can make a nice living for a while as a back up/some time starter. I think…[Read more]

  • Rick replied to the topic Utah's QB dilemma in the forum Football 12 months ago

I think that I’m going to trust the coaches on this matter. I somewhat enjoy all of the conjecture and second-guessing on this thread. I think most of you are thoughtful in your opinions; but I just keep having this thought in my mind – “We’re talking about Cam Rising.” Scott Mitchell refers to Rising as the GOAT quarterback for the University of…[Read more]

  • Nate was on 1280 – I think – this afternoon talking about the game. Mitchell asked him about a particular play where he threw to Money Parks. It was a read play where both the QB and the receiver needed to read safeties and corners. Money broke to the outside downfield right as Nate threw the ball down the seam. Mitchell said that if Money had run…[Read more]

  • Fair enough Miami. I’m just sharing my perspective. Hopefully all of this back and forth is for naught and Cam comes back this week.

  • Miami
To use your word – I absolutely believe Kyle and the staff “war-gamed” the situation. And I think it’s working out. They decided to let the talent in the room emerge while Cam rehabilitated his injury. While it hasn’t been pretty, Utah is 3-0 and Nate Johnson is getting valuable reps against strong competition (I include Weber). I do think…[Read more]

  • I agree with the Baylor radio call. Contact from both players and nothing egregious. Good no call.

  • Rick replied to the topic Juddy in the forum Basketball (Women) 1 year ago

Terrific move by Coach Roberts. I’d heard Juddy was hoping to have a little more to do. He never moved down to Provo so he still lives on the edge of the Olympus Cove.

I do wish he was doing this for the men’s team. They are in so much need of player development. I can personally attest to Juddy’s ability to teach shooting. That may seem obvious…[Read more]

  • It will be a critical match up. I do worry, like you, that our ends are a little undersized. As you said, Fillinger has gotten bigger and Fano will over the next few years. The other ends will be match ups of speed versus size – O’Toole and Ellis in particular.

But that doesn’t factor in the impact of our tackles. I don’t care who it is, I like…[Read more]
