There was some issue that he knew was going to make him ineligible or not able to perform at th expected level. So he “retired”. He would have got a look at the NFl.

An O-line can be helped out by good QB play. If the defense stacks the box and isn’t afraid of getting burned by the QB, it makes the o-line job a lot more difficult.
