utefansince79 replied to the topic What is your take on watching BB now as opposed to the past. in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 week ago
I remember back in the first years of the trey that as a tam the Lakers had something like ten 3pt attempts in the entire season.
Many teams average that per quarter now.

Still love college hoops and am in the Hunty for most games (when I don’t have a family/work commitment).
Pretty much not at all interested in the NBA due to a number of factors including a lack of defense, endless unguarded three point attempts which are often from 30-40 feet, rest management, etc. And of course our local team striving to…[Read more]

With 5 seconds left, after a foul was called against Utah on the inbounds play before the ball was even thrown in, Knell stepped up to the line with the chance to give BYU the lead. Bricked the front end of the one-and-one. Can’t blame that on the guys in stripes.

utefansince79 replied to the topic How can Utah make every home game a hostile environment like the BYU game? in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 week ago
Hopefully some of the fans attending had a fun and exciting enough time to attend a few more games. Near the end of the game, the scoreboard indicated seats for future games were available for $10 each (which is pretty cheap compared to any seats in Rice-Eccles).

The Huntsman Center is a wonderful building when it is packed and the atmosphere was incredible last night. Significant number of vocal Cougar supporters but Ute fans were much louder.
Hope that Utah fans (including the students) can come out for some of the other BIG12 games as we need that home advantage against the likes of Baylor, Kansas,…[Read more]

The players looked like they were having fun and enjoying things.
Hope a lot of Utah fans (in particular the students) come out and cheer loudly Saturday.

Among my proudest Ute moments were watching Cam dive into the end zone in the closing minutes to beat USC and then beating the Trojans again in Vegas to win another PAC12 trophy.
But time to clear the way for another leader at QB.

Had that rare time when a Ute player (Dawes) was having his way against an opponent with no answer for him. (about 4 dunks in a few minutes)
But he came out during a time out and seemed to be getting a lecture from the coach.

Need a team that performs well to draw a crowd and need a good crowd to motivate current players to play well and encourage recruits and potential coaches to come (as well as encouraging NIL $$$$).
Right now team performing poorly, small crowds, virtually zero student support, and limited NIL funds. I fear the decline will continue for some time.

Made a big difference when sections A-F (and AA-FF) were the student sections, filled below the concourse for most games, and packed to the top for BYU, UTEP, Wyoming, New Mexico, and others. Compared to now where the band often has more members than the rest of the students.

utefansince79 replied to the topic Hunter Erickson in 21 minutes tonight: 0 points, 0 assists. in the forum Basketball (Men) 2 weeks, 6 days ago
Hunter works his tail off out there, but for each game he lights it up for a handful of threes, has a few others where his shots are falling and has a high number of turnovers.
(Same goes for a number of players on this team)

So let me get this straight. Harlan gets reprimanded and fined by the league for angrily commenting on officiating after the Holy War but OK for the commissioner to do the same?

The pre-season predictions of a dead-last conference finish seem pretty right to me at this point.

Starters are 2 of 16 from the field late in the first half (12.5 percent)
National League pitchers (before they finally added the DH rule a few years ago) usually had higher batting averages.

utefansince79 replied to the topic Any word on Dorian Singer getting an extra year to play? in the forum Football 4 weeks, 1 day ago
Singer was a great play-maker and it’s unfortunate he had one lone TD. If he has a good QB throwing the ball and a few other quality receivers running routes (so opponent has several targets they need to focus on) has the potential for great numbers should he stay.

utefansince79 replied to the topic Fellow opinions on booing in the NIL Mercenary Era? in the forum Football 1 month ago
I generally don’t boo my teams (no matter what the playing level). But does indeed change things when ‘student athletes’ are now essentially professionals and many are looking for a better offer every season.
I still won’t boo, but am becoming much more understanding and tolerant of those who do.

Like to see someone like SMU, Indiana, or ASU win the whole thing (still can’t pull for Boise in any situation). But fear we’ll likely see Georgia against Oregon or Texas in the final.
Sort of like March Madness. I hope to see a small humble mid-major win the title but we inevitably see teams like Duke, Carolina, Ashley Judd U, Kansas, etc.…[Read more]

utefansince79 replied to the topic Curious about how many plan to watch the CFP this weekend in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
Indiana vs. Notre Dame intriguing as it is an in state battle between a long time power and an outsider having a great year at the right time.
But so much to get done for the holidays, may not be able to closely follow any of the playoff games and the Running Utes have a good matchup Saturday too.
