Playing BYU regularly the past 30 years (where we’ve had the upper hand, especially in the last dozen or so years) is a DAMNED more enjoyable experience than what us old-times went through in the 70/80s.
I will miss playing the Trojans. We’ve had some very exciting games (won some lost some) against them.

I suppose we may be able to get some games against former PAC members, both those that wound up in the Big10 as well as the unfortunate leftovers.
IF we wind up in the BIG12 (waiting until it is officially announced) we will now have potential non-conference opponents from western teams not currently in the MWC.

Sure the BIG10 and networks played dirty, but definitely a big reason for PAC12 imploding lies in not being able to get the PAC12 channel on Direct TV in over a (expletive) decade A staggering level of incompetence.

Not really much can be done. MWC had no recourse when Utah left for the PAC and BYU joined the WCC about 13 years ago and TCU headed to the BIG12 a few years later.
Dirty but legal what they did.

Moving from PAC12 to Big12 is a slight decrease in how attractive and prestigious the schedule is. But if we’re left out and are now in a PAC/MWC merger or even an expanded PAC (which adds some current MWC teams and possibly Hawaii) that would be a massive drop.

One thing for sure, if the 2024 football home schedule consists of (for example) Wyoming, New Mexico, Cal, San Jose State, and 2 Cougar teams (Wazzou and TDS) and they want to tack on another 20% ticket price increase, going to be some unhappy fans and lots of cancellations.

A large and very vocal crowd attended the TCU game moved to downtown. Perhaps letting people park across the street for free (compared to the parking fiasco at the Hunty) was part of it. But with football now over, hopefully fans will gain some interest and get up to the campus to watch them.

Utah convincingly beat Arizona (still the only loss for the Wildcats) and have won 3 road games for a 4-0 conference record. They are a lot of fun and much improved. Looking forward to attending both games this weekend.

This team is really fun to watch.
PAC12 play will make us raise that bar even higher. This last tough trip to Pullman and Seattle was challenging (helped by a rather strict technical called late in the game for taunting against a Wazzou player, ref really could have stepped in and calmly but firmly said “please don’t do that again”) but we…[Read more]

Loved it the Utes shut down the opposing fan base so quickly. I started singing

Both didn’t play the first 8-10 minutes (but started the second half). I wondered perhaps maybe something like being late to practice or other minor infraction may have inspired coach to send a message to Gach and Jenkins.
Gutty effort by our players. Both teams played hard on defense leading to a low scoring affair. We do need to get more…[Read more]

Been busy tonight starting on Thanksgiving prep. Just tuned into this game and it reminds me of the Bears Eagles playoff game a few decades ago.

Very sad even though recent reports the last few days indicated this was somewhat expected.
Jerry often was seen in the Hunty at Ute games.
A great player and coach who will never be forgotten by local basketball fans.

My first Ute event was a hoops game where my dad took me to see the Utes beat Loyola Marymount back in 1969 when the SEC was brand new. Didn’t go to a lot of games after that until started college back in 1979 but a friend and I and my parents have had season tickets for a long time and still attend together 50 years after that first game.

Bernard named PAC12 defensive player of the week, and Huntley got the offensive POW award.
Both of them had totally bad ass games.
My favorite play for Bernard is when he made that solo tackle on the shovel pass and buried the receiver.

Would suggest not following those. Known people to get ransomware and other unwanted material on their machines when they do that.

What happened to Missouri? Did we buy out the return game or perhaps postpone it to another year? But indeed it is the most attractive and strongest pre-season schedule we’ve had in a very long time.

About a decade ago I would have been rather unhappy as we’ve been a Coke family for years, but I rarely drink soda nowadays preferring water to quench my thirst during the game.
I’m just happy the stadium still allow a one liter sealed water bottle which is much needed on hot afternoon games.

Until (and inculding) the 2 OT loss at Cal (nothing to be ashamed of giving a good team a battle on their home floor) I considered the season a success.
But we followed that up with poor performances (I felt that after that game we only played well at Boulder and against Cal in the Hunty) which greatly dissappointed me.
Still looking forward…[Read more]

Crazy how many want to discuss politics on the Utah sports boards. I just quietly uncheck the politics category (out of sight out of mind). With a fan base fairly evenly divided between non-drinkers and drinkers, Mormons and non-Mormons, Republicans and Democrats, etc, any politics threads just have the potential to get too unfriendly and I want…[Read more]
