Grew up with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in the old Salt Palace (an excellent hockey venue which wasn’t so great for hoops (sight lines were horrible in the blue dress circle behind the baskets).

Will be interesting to see how they reconfigure the Delta Center to accommodate both sports. Going to have to make major changes on the ends.

  • CU just seems to be charmed to pull out close games. Their OT win over Baylor was just crazy (forced OT on a last second Hail Mary, then Baylor fumbled inside the one yard line on a potential tying score)

  • Arizona winning makes us look better, but could hurt us if they’re tied with us in the standings at the end of the season if things come down to tie-breakers.

  • What a crazy ride it has been for the Mets. Monday against the Braves, needing a win to even make the playoffs, they had an 6 run 8th inning and 2 more in the 9th. Then last night a 3 run dinger in the 9th in the decisive games against Milwaukee.

  • Back when we hoped to win the battle of the brothers and maybe win a few other games against the likes of Wyoming, Colorado State, and New Mexico, and at least blowing out UTEP was a foregone conclusion. Dreamed of one day beating that team down in Provo and heaven forbid attending a bowl game or maybe being in the ‘others receiving votes’…[Read more]

  • For right now Big12 has more prestige than what is in the Pac and very unlikely the Pac gets a media even close to the one for Big12, so I would say Utah stays put until the next big shuffle.

  • It’s been noted a few other places that our last home loss to an unranked visitor was in 2017. So it isn’t like we make a habit of this. Just a game we need to learn from and move on.

  • In the first few games this season, we benefitted from some interference calls and on similar plays Saturday, those calls weren’t made. Indeed very probably their DC told them, when in doubt, hit them early to break up the play and keep doing it until the call is made.

On a tangent, after our TD with Zona starting deep in their territory with…[Read more]

Wish we had a beefier pre-season for the men. Other than home game against St. Mary’s and ‘neutral court’ games against Mississippi St. and Iowa, not really much to get them seasoned for the Big12 battles.

May not be quite so bad this week since we are fortunate to have a late start (on what will be a very warm day) and it will be pleasant to sit in the stand at halftime enjoying the Homecoming show and seeing the band write out the script Utah instead of seeking shelter from the elements.

But at some point need some major construction of some…[Read more]

BYU had a stretch of about half a quarter where everything went right for them and disastrously wrong for K-State (who controlled the other 53 minutes except for not ever finding the end zone.) Not often a team has 50% more total yardage but loses by 30.

Meanwhile Baylor licking their wounds after a last second Hail Mary forced overtime…[Read more]

Seems to be a matter of time before we see a mid-season strike that effectively ends football or hoops for the year.

  • Long time Salt Lake residents may remember when our AAA team, in late 60s I believe, was named the Padres.

Sometimes this sort of thing can just be an indication of how lenient or strict officials called particular games. But averaging close to 10 a game seems a bit sloppy and/or undisciplined to me.

I cheer for any team in the state of Utah with one notable exception. Glad the Aggies will be in a conference with other teams in the same region of the country.

I don’t mind being resented because opposing fans want to see the higher ranked team fall. Teams I want to see fail the most are ones that have won the most over the years (Yankees, Lakers, Manchester United, Cowboys, etc.)

But I would rather not be disliked due to some of our players/fans being disrespectful to other schools and/or the…[Read more]

After last year in Tucson, regarding that last score, Whitt simply said it’s up to us to stop them. But the coaches, team, and fans will very remember and be motivated to give a hearty welcome to Sack Lake City on Saturday.

Glad it’s a night game (even as late as it is). Fans always louder and energetic when the sun goes down.

  • Wasn’t able to watch but was following the stats on my phone app. Wondered why Covey wasn’t returning punts. Hope he recovers.

  • Games seem to be called less harshly this season. (Examples are no call when Cam shoved into the hydration station, when Money hit after taking knee, and the targeting call on Tao being rescinded). Last season all 3 would have likely been called differently.

Loved the Cowboy crowd. Seemed most stayed around in very hot conditions and made a lot of noise and seemed to be having a fun boisterous time the whole way.

Teams just might meet again in December.
