utefansince79 replied to the topic Going to Utah State game! in the forum Football 5 months ago
Always has been a favorite day trip with a pleasant scenic drive and friendly fans. Sadly have weekend coverage (and one of the few members of my staff who could switch with he is an USU alum who will be attending) so will have to skip the game this time.

No injuries, nice late summer evening weather.

For decades now the Holy War often sees underdogs give the favorites all they can handle. Could be a very competitive game come early November.

utefansince79 replied to the topic Was the pandemic the major cause of the Pac12 dissolving? in the forum Pac-12 5 months, 1 week ago
Seems it was inevitable that the BiG and SEC gradually absorb the most desirable teams from other conferences.
Best we may hope for is eventually is a lot of the former PAC12 members (including Utah) are together in a western division of the BiG.

Some people can be at their worst when they are online hiding and typing things they would usually not say to your face.
I’ve avoided CB for a very long time now and unfortunately have had to leave a few FB Big12 boards as there is far too much negativity (largely from “fans” from BYU and Utah.) Would have liked to meet and befriend fans from…[Read more]

Most of schedule after September not announced yet. Like the PAC12, will find out game times and networks a week or two before the game.

Some of the furthest opponents (except the team from Provo) are the ones we play twice. Would rather have home/away against Colorado, Zona, and ASU.
But will have some interesting teams paying a visit, hopefully we can be somewhat competitive.

Lord forbid we allow football outcomes similar to San Diego State or Butler in the hoops title game or Fresno State winning the baseball title.

utefansince79 replied to the topic What I’d like to see (hear) in the forum Football 7 months ago
Others may not agree with me, but one thing I hope to NEVER hear at Rice-Eccles is the obnoxious horn used at many venues (some college football and pretty much all NHL arenas) which drowns out the noise made by fans after a score.
I want to hear the roar of the crowd, not fake noise.

A very special team. At their last regular season home game against UTEP, when they pulled the starters off with a minute left, legendary Don Haskins walked the length of the court down to the Utah bench to shake all of their hands.
(This was before the tradition of teams lining up and shaking hands at the end of the game started).

In my younger years…
Basketball – Utah Stars, didn’t really follow NBA at all, just the ABA
Hockey – Salt Lake Golden Eagles
Baseball – Cincinnati RedsStill a Reds fan, and now a Jazz fan. Of course now a fan of all Ute team and will follow our new NHL yet-to-named team.
NFL now follow the Packers.

utefansince79 replied to the topic Which game are you most looking forward to this fall and why? in the forum Football 7 months, 1 week ago
While it’s been six years since TDS visited Rice-Eccles, I am eager for the Arizona game, if anything, for a rather late long bomb in a game that was long past decided.

My trouble is now I have to shell out the $$$$$ for a higher system. But will be nice to have a version with the remodeled Rice-Eccles.

utefansince79 replied to the topic Honest question: Urban Meyer hate? in the forum Football 8 months ago
One thing I will always appreciate is Urban lit a fire under a once mostly apathetic student body and motivate them to pack the student section at Rice-Eccles. (Now if only someone could do that for basketball)

utefansince79 replied to the topic This is what is so frustrating about the BYU fanbase in the forum They So Poo Poo 8 months, 1 week ago
Why do we really care? So a bunch of Zoobs post on the Big12 board they were repeatedly drenched in beer when visiting Rice-Eccles. An Oklahoma State fan (for example) reads that, cautiously pays us a visit, is perhaps disappointed only by the fact they can’t buy a cold beer in our stadium, (but maybe walks by the tailgate lot before the game…[Read more]

utefansince79 replied to the topic Time for players to be contractually paid employees?? in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
Perhaps also have contracts that last more than one season two so they can’t transfer every off-season. Right now when the season ends, every player essentially becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Chris had early season ending injuries 2 years in a row so we’ve never really got a good look at him. Hope wherever he ends up he stays healthy and gets a chance to finally get some playing time.
