Trend in college football and hoops is longer timeouts. Fans in Rice-Eccles are starting to boo the individual who comes out with the sign displaying the count down clock for when play will resume.
And indeed Big12 officials have a much lighter hand on the game, letting the teams play, especially compared to our former conference.

What did Ezra do on the technical? Figured he was unhappy about getting shoved around a few times (and officials were letting both teams get aggressive, in particular in the first half) and he said or did something to express his feelings.

We won the rebounding battle 36-21 which as a huge help. Did well from the line going 12-17. Helped that the Bearcats were poor from the line, including missing 3 front ends of 1 and 1s (cost a potential 6 points).
Was kind of crazy that when Shark got shoved off of the floor, earning a flagrant 2 on the opponent, that we came away with zero points.
Ezra started hot early, but opponent got aggressive, perhaps getting away with a few uncalled fouls and he got frustrated and was T’d up. Dawes had a good stretch in the second half helping up get back out in front.
I’ve been calling for Gabe to step inside the circle and attempt more makeable mid range jumper when his treys aren’t dropping which he finally did last night. He was 1-6 outside the arch last night (had another that went in but was waved off due to a moving screen) but a few of his misses were to beat the shot clock.
Team is showing they can compete with the lower part of this very challenging league. Glad that in a few recent close games (in particular the OT game against TD$$$) we’ve been able to pull it out down the stretch.

Thanks for all you do Tony.

I remember back in the first years of the trey that as a team the Lakers had something like ten 3pt attempts in the entire season.
Many teams average that per quarter now.

Still love college hoops and am in the Hunty for most games (when I don’t have a family/work commitment).
Pretty much not at all interested in the NBA due to a number of factors including a lack of defense, endless unguarded three point attempts which are often from 30-40 feet, rest management, etc. And of course our local team striving to finish as low in the standings as possible to hopefully get a high draft pick.

With 5 seconds left, after a foul was called against Utah on the inbounds play before the ball was even thrown in, Knell stepped up to the line with the chance to give BYU the lead. Bricked the front end of the one-and-one. Can’t blame that on the guys in stripes.

Hopefully some of the fans attending had a fun and exciting enough time to attend a few more games. Near the end of the game, the scoreboard indicated seats for future games were available for $10 each (which is pretty cheap compared to any seats in Rice-Eccles).

The Huntsman Center is a wonderful building when it is packed and the atmosphere was incredible last night. Significant number of vocal Cougar supporters but Ute fans were much louder.
Hope that Utah fans (including the students) can come out for some of the other BIG12 games as we need that home advantage against the likes of Baylor, Kansas, and others who will be paying a visit.

The players looked like they were having fun and enjoying things.
Hope a lot of Utah fans (in particular the students) come out and cheer loudly Saturday.
