  • Yeah it just seems like time for Whitt to retire. Maybe if he had a really talented team coming back next year, but it isn’t looking like it. Time for a change.

  • 2008, but yes. Whitt is a coach whose averages 4 losses a season. He’s a good coach. I’ve never called for him to be fired, but he also isn’t a great coach that should get a statue.

LOL I love Spence Checketts, but he spent the week pushing this. “Hey if Utah wins out and chaos happened could they win the Big 12?”

Problem is the team just isn’t any good. Do other bad teams talk about their odds to win the conference as the losses pile up and the eye ball test shows reality? Besides the obvious Ls in the loss column each…[Read more]

  • Crazy Urban in 2 years only has one less conference title than a guy who has been the HC for 20. If the Pac 12 didn’t change its qualifying rules before the 22 season, Whitt and Urban would have the same with one coaching 10x as long.

  • Haha this seems a bit much. I’m not Mormon, but most Mormons are fine and just trying to make it through life like everyone else.

I do agree about Ryan Smith making it harder to be a Jazz fan or support his hockey team. He is using government money to fund his entertainment center that he wants, meanwhile he is pumping millions into tds…[Read more]

  • Mike Norvell has done the worst coaching job in the country this year, but there is an argument to be made Whitt is 2nd. Arizona and Houston are awful teams. ASU and TCU are mediocre teams. To have a 4 game losing streak to that group of 4 is just pathetic.

He was supposed to retire on a high note after winning the Big 12 and making the playoff. Instead he is going to retire after a losing season in the biggest letdown season in Utah football history.

I don’t see Whittingham being fired, but he probably should accept reality and retire. This is a terrible coaching job.

  • Utehoopsfan replied to the topic Booooooo in the forum Football 4 weeks, 1 day ago

Players get paid now and fans pay a lot to go to games. I think we are past the point in college football where nobody should boo because it might hurt the player’s feelings.

  • 20 years to recover? They won the MW Crowton’s first year and Bronco had some very good teams.

Whittingham isn’t being forced out. He is probably the furthest coach from the hot seat in college football. He might call it quits though. He is 65 and this year has to be extra hard on him with the super high expectations. He already has named…[Read more]

  • He has literally gotten injured(or missed the whole season) every year. Nobody should have pushed back that he was injury prone. The biggest recent failure of Whittingham was not having a QB ready to go for 23. Rising to Barnes is such a colossal drop off.

  • Don’t think contract length has anything to do with when Whittingham will step down. Coaches rarely get to the end of their contract anyway. They are either fired before or retire. Nick Saban had several years left on his deal, but walked away for example. National Champion basketball coach Tony Bennett did the same thing last week.…[Read more]

  • Maybe, but Jay hill is a more proven winner at this point. Scalley has never been a HC. Yes it was Weber, but Jay Hill did an excellent job at Weber. He has ttds playing really good defense this year and greatly overachieving why Scalley is doing the opposite.

I agree with your second paragraph. We should do a national search and find the…[Read more]

Why is Scalley an automatic for the HC position? Why can’t we have a legit coaching search when the time comes?

  • He isn’t on the hot seat at all and he is probably retiring soon, but I wouldn’t give him an extension unless things improve. I also wouldn’t give Scalley the job at this point, but that has been decided.

  • Whittingham isn’t close to the hot seat. He made back to back Rose Bowls fairly recently. With that said, no coach should ever get to pick their time to retire. if this season implodes and next season isn’t any better, I’m not saying he should be fired, but I wouldn’t give him an extension. He has earned an opportunity to fix the problems, but…[Read more]

  • Utehoopsfan replied to the topic Ohio State at Oregon in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago

Good win by Oregon. Day is 61-9 with 3 of those coming to Michigan and 2 coming to Oregon.

  • Yeah, it was a mistake to make him HC in waiting. He should definitely be a candidate for the job, but not opening it up and seeing what good coaches are available is a mistake.

  • If Cam is 100%, you ride with him even if you are out of playoff contention. With what we saw last night, if that is what Rising is going forward, yeah you should play the Freshman.

  • All good coordinators and really all good assistants are flight risks. Jay Hill already left Utah after being a longtime assistant.

I agree with you that it is highly unlikely he’ll be the DC. He’ll likely be a HC soon and even if he isn’t, he’ll probably see it as a slap in the face that Scalley is the HC over him when Hill has an argument…[Read more]

  • He’s a good coach, but an overrated one. He has a reputation of doing “more with less” and that has been true in some cases such as beating Oregon twice in 21 and USC twice in 22, but he also does his share of “doing less with more” and dropping games where Utah is the more talented team. 13 of his 19 seasons he’s had at least 4 losses. Could…[Read more]
