UTEopia replied to the topic Most frustrating football seasons in the forum Football a year ago
2016 – Utes finish 9-4. Lost on road to Cal when they had 4 shots inside the 5 and Zach Moss failed to follow Isaac Asiata into the hole. Moss would still be running had he hit the hole. Utes lost to Oregon after scoring go ahead score, Oregon takes the ball downfield with less then 1 minute and Carrington makes amazing TD catch. Utes lose at…[Read more]

I don’t think he adds needed depth.

UTEopia replied to the topic Current Status of Utah Players in the NFL in the forum Football a year ago
Blair, Anae and Tony Bergstrom were on the list of Ute footballers receiving their degrees from the U last week. Good for them for coming back and finishing school.

UTEopia replied to the topic Time for players to be contractually paid employees?? in the forum Football a year ago
I just don’t know how a contract will prevent unrestricted NIL. I’m guessing you could have a non-compete that could try to limit the portal, but those are narrowly construed. The only way I can see a return to some type of normalcy is through Federal Legislation, but even that would be problematic.

UTEopia replied to the topic Burgess gone back TDS in the forum Basketball (Men) a year ago
Burgess made a smart move. He is leaving a program that has an HC who will be gone next year and joining a coach with a 7 year deal.
I don’t see Burgess as the next HC at Utah whether he had stayed or left. You don’t promote an assistant in a losing program to HC of that program.
Utah basketball is as dead as it could be. I wanted Giac, Boy…[Read more] -

I can’t imagine Dart being at Ole Miss after next year. One at USC and 3 at Ole Miss. if he isn’t in the NFL, something will have gone wrong for him.

UTEopia replied to the topic Luther Elliss On Boise Sports Talk Radio in the forum Football a year ago
Luther is a great guy. Had the opportunity to get to know him when he returned to the U to get his degree after his NFL days and worked as a student assistant with the football team. Humble, hard working, dedicated family guy.

UTEopia replied to the topic One single play that changed the trajectory of the program in the forum Football a year ago
It wasn’t just the injury, but it occurred in the 4th quarter with the Utes up by 17+ points.
The next week Utah lost at Arizona by 6. Utah appeared to have scored a leading touchdown late in the game when the WR caught a ball at back of end zone. Before days of replay, the receiver was called out of bounds. Television replay showed him in b…[Read more]

UTEopia replied to the topic Deivon Smith enters the Portal in the forum Basketball (Men) a year ago
I know longer go on twitter, but I assume Deivon has not posted his departure on twitter as I have not see it anywhere. Is he giving Utah a continued opportunity to come up with the money or has he decided he is leaving regardless?

UTEopia replied to the topic Ephraim Asiata in the forum Football a year ago
I have no idea. I think this will be a kid, like Zach Wilson, who will have a great career at BYU. There are so many variables at play that while I think this is a great question, the only people who really know are the kid, his parents and to some extent the coaches.
This is going back a long way, but his father originally signed with BYU but…[Read more]

UTEopia replied to the topic Another record setting year for Utah athletics revenues! in the forum Football a year ago
So many of these figures are meaningless without the details. For example, Utah sports pay rent to the University to play in both the Smith’s ballpark, Huntsman and RES (I don’t know about other facilities). Which other schools pay those fees? If they don’t pay rent, is that institutional support? Utah athletic department pays the costs…[Read more]

UTEopia replied to the topic Another record setting year for Utah athletics revenues! in the forum Football a year ago
I assume the years looked at included the Covid year. I believe the athletic department reported a $20-25 million difference between revenue and expenses, but offset that loss with monies from reserves.

UTEopia replied to the topic Is the Indiana Fever the dumbest team name in the history of the world? in the forum Basketball (Women) a year ago
Utah Jazz is the dumbest, most incongruent name ever. The name stuck when the team move to Utah from New Orleans because the owner did not want to buy new uniforms.

UTEopia replied to the topic Now spring practice is over – what do you think… in the forum Football a year ago
I just don’t see any veteran QB better than Barnes being interested in transferring. If Rose were to transfer, I could see them looking to bring in an underclassman, but would that do anything to provide quality depth this year? Could you get a sophomore better than Rose? Maybe, but he would likely lack real game experience. I mean look at…[Read more]

Moroni is an interesting story. His family is in our LDS Ward in San Diego. His grandfather, Joe Cravens, was a QB at Utah in the early 60’s. He and Norm Chow were two of the first Hawaiians to play at The U. When Moroni was fairly young, his parents were both killed in a car accident. He and his 6 siblings were the raised by Joe and his w…[Read more]

UTEopia replied to the topic How bad would losing Burgess be? in the forum Basketball (Men) a year ago
I am guessing Burgess played a significant role in the recruitment of Jaxson Johnson who will be headed directly on a mission. I believe Johnson is the No. 2 rated Utah HS recruit this class. There are supposedly a number of highly regarded Utah recruits in the 2025 and 2026 classes.
