  • I think many of the voters are only paying attention to overall record and not the specifics and that’s why the Utes are stuck in ‘receiving votes’ purgatory.

Hopefully (if Utah finishes strong) the committee considers more details, including that all three Big12 losses you listed were when McQueen was out.

It’s surprising, given her overall play. Oddly, her FT% has dropped every year (75, 73, 67, 55).

I wondered at the time if her missing those two free throws against LSU her sophomore year would mess with her confidence. Maybe it did with the 5% drop, but the 12% drop this year is something else.

Currently, the Women’s teams is shooting 75.3% for the season.

Starters are shooting 78.9%, which is impressive, given that Jenna Johnson and Maye Toure have shot 55% and 63%, respectively.

  • You have good points but two of them probably would probably need to be addressed to Yomark as Harlan has limited control. I’m not either of those guys (thank goodness, but I would like the salary) but I’ll take a stab at their replies (does not necessarily mean endorsement).

    1. @Laramie sucks but if you were in the PAC12 (RIP) ACC, or BIG 12,…[Read more]

  • I found Hockey Club less objectionable than the others until I saw the proposed logo.

I guess Mammoth is better than Outlaws. Both sound like minor league roller derby teams…

  • Has anyone heard anything about the severity of McQueen’s injury? It would be a huge loss for the team if she’s out for a long time.

  • I also am withholding optimism until I see how he works out at Utah.

OTOH, it’s hard to pin the 5-7 record on Beck when the defense was giving up 38 points per game. There were only four worse scoring defenses in FBS.

Utah had a couple of common opponents with UNM this year. Lobos scored 39 at Arizona (Utah 10) and lost because their defense…[Read more]

  • Exactly what Miami said.

Going to coach in the pros, gets a hefty raise, no longer has to recruit/deal with NIL, and gets to go home to California. A no-brainer for the coach.

  • I’m not the person that you asked but if you are interested in my perspective on the topic:

As a Utahn that grew up in the 80s-90s, there was a lot of arrogance directed at me for being a Utes fan when most of my classmates were cheering for BYU. Whatever, but when the rivalry started to shift to equality (and later Utah dominance), those same…[Read more]

I would love to go back to the world where Utah plays USC, Oregon, et al. and your guys are going against Texas and that team south of OKC. But that’s not the current world so I’m happy to watch the Utes go against a bunch of quality teams (mostly) in the central time zone.

    Go Utes!

Go (but not this week) Cowboys!

I agree with what you are saying: old PAC-12 was awesome but the Big XII is a good place to be right now and better than the current (and hypothesized above) PAC-12.

However, the CFB numbers you share don’t really show that they view the current Big XII all that better than the PAC-12. Of the six Big-XII playoff appearances, five belong to…[Read more]

  • Using the same six-year period:

Average Home Margin of victory, 5:00 or later kickoff: 20.46

Average Home Margin of victory, kickoff before 5:00: 19.84

These numbers can be analyzed further (most games in 2019 were blowouts, how often the FCS kickoff is early vs. late, etc.) but I should probably get back to work 😉

  • Some quick numbers based on the past six seasons. I picked 5:00 pm kickoff as the line since the game referred to in the video kicked off at that time.

Utah record at home, kickoff 5:00pm or later: 18-2 (90%)
Utah record at home, kickoff before 5:00pm: 14-1 (93%)

Seems to me that the Utes are pretty good at home, regardless of kickoff time.…[Read more]

The mention of the Uintas and immediate shift to a peak in the La Sals was absolutely something Walton would have done. His style wasn’t for everyone but it was certainly distinct.

  • Free. I just want someone to enjoy them and support the team. Send me a PM with the email address I can forward them to and I’ll send them from the Utah Utes app.

  • I hope this is ok to post here. I have two tickets to tonight’s game but a conflict came up so I won’t be able to go. I’d like to get two Utah fans in those seats if possible. Anybody want them?
